“Just put your lips together and blow.” That must be the most sampled line in electronic music, so when we hit it again, you’ll know the reference. I just saw this for the first time, and I’ve heard that line all of my adult life. Before this I thought it was from Casablanca. I know. I never claimed to be a cultural savant like so many of my friends. I always felt stupid because they could rattle off the actors, directors, years, stats of all the classic movies. Never could. Still can’t. The difference now is that I’m okay with being a fool.

But when I finally saw this clip the other night, it put me in mind of Frankie Knuckles’ “The Whistle Song”, which is nice to hear as the winter transitions into spring and the birds start sounding like the alarm on my iPhone. It’s nice. I saw my first 2023 sunburn today, on a French acquaintance who obviously, like everyone else in town, spent the day outdoors. Time to invest in a hat, like the well-groomed gentleman in the photos, and the Andy Capp graffiti. Obviously, this Frenchman would wear a beret.

That said, it’s also time to post all of the winter shots. A kind-of digital spring-cleaning. Get rid of the photos of scarves and coats – though, truly, Europeans will wear these into May. They have a fear of catching a chill from a draft: Draft comes, neck gets cold, they sicken and die. Just like that. A=B=C=D, no argument, no logic, no quarrel will dissuade even the most enlightened. Draft, cold, sick, die.

Oh, life on the continent. Though the migration is done, I’m still worn out, with lots of work to catch up on. Got to sleep. Tweet twiit.
