Eric B. & Rakim : Paid in Full (Seven Minutes Of Madness - The Coldcut Remix)
make me feel so good
Ecco un sacco of references on a Coldcut digital platter that will go way over your head, not through any lack of yours, but because you would have had to have been there. Again, my own personal history has made me doubt that anyone can really know a time unless you were there breathing the air.
I’ve arranged the clues and Coldcut will supply the rest. There is one that you may recall; the sample from Beside’s “Change the Beat” : “That stuff is really fresh”. “Pump Up the Volume” is one that you may know. The obscure, how-do-you-say, “stylish” references are Coldcut’s impeccable signature, and this classic hit is all too full of them to explicate in this small entry. I would have to step you through it. And ultimately you wouldn’t care anyway. Just enjoy the song. It stands alone, obviously.
I almost didn’t include the video because I don’t like the little English interjections that Ofra felt like she had to add. They’re not too bad, though, and they don’t glare too hard. That scaly percussion drowns most of it out. As you may guess, this was a HUGE hit in the disco and we kids did laugh at that song, but not with derision, I can assure you.
I can’t believe this took so long. /argh. to bed.
