I say, my dear chaps, I am distrutto as they say in Italian, destroyed, beat, wasted, wore out, flat-out tired. Monday, Monday, you know what I’m sayin’?
Can we make a deal? I’m gonna check out early and come back to this here text tomorrow. It will give you something to look forward to. The deal is I promise it will be better than anything I could possibly write right now, awright? Right. Later, then. Seriously. Some time tomorrow.
UPDATE:
Obviously the clever “graffito in vetro” of the photo refers to the fall of Icarus. On the Wikipedia page, there are links to depictions of this scene in various paintings of antiquity, but my favourite one is by Bruegel, Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, largely because of the reasons explicated in the text. I like scenes that present one way at first glance, but then on closer inspection reveal clues to a depth hidden to the casual observer.
Like this graffito, in fact. It seems that it’s “title” is the contact information for what I presume to be the artist, but this, as I’ve said, is a presumption. Perhaps not. Perhaps “Rock Simons” and the phone number is part of the message of the artwork. What is salient to me is the word “scuotere”, which appears darker beneath – at least I think it is scuotere – meaning, “shake, rouse, jolt, toss”. Below the phone number is illegible text. And all of this on reflective glass, with vivid blue specks flying through the foam, presented in a transparent medium, subtly. One could pass right by it and never see it.
