Amon Tobin : Eight Sum

giro giro

Ok, put me down for two posts I have to write. If you knew what my life was like right now, you would understand.

You would understand.

I’ll write these, I want to write these, I just can’t write right alright now. Later! Buona Sera, Buona Notte, Sogni d’Oro!

UPDATE

So, in my research for this post, I came across the idea that Wonderwall may refer to a movie by the same name starring Jane Birkin, with the soundtrack provided by George Harrison. It looks pretty terrible, one of those self-indulgent ’60s projects that had to be made just to see where the boundaries lay. It’s not like we had the visual language or technical know-how to translate psychedelic experiences into film at the time, so all of it was bound to be goofy.

When the song was released, it was played relentlessly, apparently. I heard it first in the gym on someone’s radio and adopted it as a comment on an alternate reality. I really liked it, but I was so outside of pop culture at that time, I rarely heard it. I’m not a big fan of the band members, or their faux-hooligan image, but I like their hits.

The Amon Tobin came to me from a compilation on Ninja Tune Records, their 20th anniversary, Volume 2. You remember Erik B. and Rakim’s “Paid in Full”, produced by Coldcut? The label was started by the two members of Coldcut. It’s all related, intertwined in one big happy scene. Or, rather, a testament to my limited musical tastes! Ha. I know that’s not true.
