lost plot

As the title indicates, I have lost the plot. Not that there ever was one, in particular, but I was trying to follow the progression of the month extemporaneously and it all just kind of fell apart, maybe? That’s okay, though, it’s time for a little chaos anyway, a fuzzy landing as we return from impressionist LaLaLand to material LaLaReale.

Monsoon is Shiela Chandra, who is a big pop star in India. This is probably her most popular Western LP, and it’s a good one. The “hit” off the album is the exotic  and sumptuous “Ever So Lonely”, but I use “hit” loosely, because while my people knew it and danced to it, the rest of the Western culture remained ignorant, as was usual in 1983. The entire album is fantastic and the expanded versions on the streaming services feature the 12″ version (thank you!) of the hit.

La Dolce Vita is self-explanatory, part of the fuzzy return to earth. I couldn’t get the embed to jump to the Trevi Fountain clip at :49, so click this link and watch it directly on YouTube. It’s the best version I could find, unfortunately only in Italian and only the full-length movie. It hardly matters, though. For those of you who speak Italian even roughly, go ahead and watch the whole movie embedded here. The Italian is not that hard and it’s all mixed up with English. All of the women in the movie are incredible to watch, they’re so glamorous you hardly need dialogue. Nico plays a significant role later, as herself. How much more glamorous can you get than the Economic Miracle that was Italy in the early 1960s? And it’ll give you some good practice, a chance to brush up on your rusty Italian.

Hey. It’s 10:35. Not bad. I wonder if I can sneak an episode of Foundation in before I go to bed?

PS: The jacked dude in the Trevi Fountain is Oceanus, the god of the river that encircled the world.
