Charon
Tricky’s first album, Maxinquaye, is required, as is his work with the first Massive Attack productions, Blue Lines and Protection. Astute listeners will also recognise this tune from Portishead’s “Glory Box“. His crack and shatter was particularly painful for me to watch, perhaps because Massive Attack maintained as he got notably crazier. Occupational hazard : psychopomps fly too deep. It’s a tough path to navigate, and it’s heartbreaking watching them fracture.
Bryan Ferry is one of my perennial favorites, this album, Bête Noire, and Boys and Girls. We will return to him vis-a-vis Roxy Music, I’m sure.
For some reason I’ve been thinking of a song my mother used to sing to me, in French :
Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques,
Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous?
Sonnez les matines! Sonnez les matines!
Din, din, don. Din, din, don.
Devo dormire, io stesso. Buona notte.
