site work
UPDATE: 27 March. Talk about spring cleaning. In my research I’ve found some issues that are going to require an even deeper rethinking than I had at first believed. Now I find myself examining the existential premises on which this site is built, namely: What is the goal of this web site? Why am I doing this? I find that I can’t answer even those basic questions, much less the ones that logically follow from them.
I’m going to spend the next few weeks? months? answering some questions. Whatever, whenever. Why am I typing this? No one is reading this anyway!
It’s that time again, folks. I need to clear my brain, my day job is overwhelming and I’ve got to go meta for a while and work on the site itself. I tell you what, though. I’ll leave the site up and you can watch me work, if you like. It’s bound to get messy and ganked, but that’s fun, too. If it’s not too destroyed, I’ll post again next Monday night, CET, and let you know my progress. Think of it as a deep-meta-spring cleaning.
And it is, yay, Spring. My light-tuned friend told me to watch today as the balance tilts ever-more-slightly in the Sun’s favour. The vernal equinox is happening as I type this, at 22:24 tonight. Love that synchronicity; just as I read that factoid, Spring was turning. ANYWAY, to celebrate, I thought I would pair one of my top-10 songs of all time with another genre-defining favorite. That top-10 fave would be Elvis singing “Blue Moon,” that pure, clear voice poured over a melancholic, crystal cube of minimal drum and bass. The video is a slight remix of Kruder and Dorfmeister’s “High Noon”, sampling The same King on an Acid Jazz bender. You can find – and should find, and play all week long – K+D’s seminal Acid Jazz-defining G-Stoned ep here on Apple and here on Spotify.
I want to say something else before I roll. I’ve learned a lot about blogging in these last months. The first thing I’ve learned is that it’s not easy, or quick. One post is normally about 2 1/2 – 3 hours’ worth of work. That surprised me. The second is how much I’ve enjoyed it. Even if no one is out there – and I suspect no one is out there! – it makes absolutely no difference. I love the process, from getting on my bike to posting the results on the page. I’m going to make some adjustments to that process to even out my flow and get a more clear vision of where I want to take this. Grazie per la pazienza.
